We love everything about the summer months in the beautiful Kentucky town of Bardstown. Our little corner of Kentucky’s Bluegrass Country is the perfect summer getaway for more reasons than one. Sure, we have the best Bourbon in the entire country. After all, Bardstown is considered to be the “Birthplace of Bourbon”. More than that, though, Bardstown is incredible beautiful, and downtown has a wonderful mix of shopping, history, and entertainment. One of our favorite ways to spend a summer evening is at the popular outdoor theater production, “The Stephen Foster Story,” located at My Old Kentucky Home State Park. There’s nothing better than a little heritage mixed with live entertainment. Book your room at our Bourbon-themed Bed and Breakfast this summer, and get to know the heart of Kentucky.
The Stephen Foster Story
It’s safe to say that there are no experiences more quintessentially Kentucky than watching “The Stephen Foster Story” at My Old Kentucky Home State Park. So who is Stephen Foster? To put it simply, he was America’s first great composer, who is probably most famous for the traditional ballad “My Old Kentucky Home“, sung at the Kentucky Derby each year. He is often called the “father of American Music,” and often characterized a deep love and appreciation of his country. His music was simple but sympathetic, striking right into the hearts of his fellow Americans.
Outdoor theater products are actually very popular in Kentucky throughout the warm summer months. There’s something about sitting out under the twinkling night sky, enjoying a glimpse into history with several hundred of your fellow Kentuckians (or guests). “The Stephen Foster Story” itself, held in the J. Dan Talbott Amphitheater, is Kentucky’s longest-running outdoor drama. The production includes colorful period costumes, lively choreography, and more than 50 Foster songs. Here’s a small glimpse of what you can expect at this spectacular outdoor drama:
