Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest – 90th anniversary
2019 is a year of reflection and celebration at the Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest. The community of visitors, volunteers, trustees, and staff are all recounting the wonderful memories made in this magical forest. Their events calendar is full of guided\ walks, educational talks, festivals, and evening strolls. Most exciting of all are the new, massive sculptures made from recycled, regional wood. This forest giant family, created by Danish artist, Thomas Dambo, will reside at the arboretum for at least three years. Mama Loumari and her children are near each other on a 2-mile hiking loop in the park. Come visit them and learn more about their fairytale.
While the new forest inhabitants are a must see, stay and hike the over 40 miles of diverse trails. Bikers and hikers of all levels will find a path to challenge them while taking in the lovely scenery. Find all the trail information and details on the interactive map to help plan your day. Many short trails, less than half a mile offer great views and landscapes. While serious athletes can explore the 5-mile to 13-mile paths for a full day in nature. Each trail is unique, some featuring mature forests, wildflowers, streams, lakes and rustic bridges. Get a tree-top view strolling the Canopy Tree Walk, a short boardwalk suspended 75 feet from the ground.
After a day in the forest, return to your relaxing suite at the Bourbon Manor Bed and Breakfast. Discover the wonderful restaurants and lively bars in Bardstown, a short walk from the inn. Then return to our on-site bourbon lounge for an evening cocktail, just steps from your room. Reserve a tranquil spring or summer escape for you and your loved one.
