- Civil War Museum – This museum (that’s really three in one location) is a must see for any Civil War enthusiast. The main museum has detailed exhibits that focus on politics, infantry, slavery and artillery. Additionally, the on site Women’s Museum of the Civil War focuses on the history of women that contributed as spies, nurses and combat soldiers. Lastly, stop by the Old Bardstown Village, a Colonial period settlement. Here they demonstrate daily life and military drills during the civil war time period.
- Bardstown Historic Walking Tour – This comprehensive walking tour, created by a local historian, includes almost 50 buildings right in the center of town. Several locations have a direct connection to the Civil war such as a Union recruiting site and a boarding school used as a hospital.
- Sisters of Charity Heritage Hall – During the Civil War this order volunteered to nurse the wounded for both armies and the Heritage Hall has many artifacts of that time. One cherished item is a letter of protection to the sisters issued by Abraham Lincoln.
- The Bardstown Historical Museum – Spaling Hall houses the Bardstown Historical Museum and the Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History. The museum displays artifacts that cover 200 years of local history, including rare Civil War items such as Lincoln documents.
- Wickland, Home of Three Governors – Visitors can imagine civil war home life while touring this Georgian-style house built circa 1828. This historic home of three governors, two of which were pre-civil war, offers informational events and
a self-guided architectural tour. - My Old Kentucky Home – Kentucky’s most famous historic site, this 200 year old mansion and plantation offer several specialized tours. Most recently, the “Freedom and the Homefront” tour will be open to visitors September 2018. The beautiful home sets the stage for the war time era, specifically how it affected the local community.
